PhD Candidate
I’m a PhD student at the ICM-CSIC enrolled in the Biodiversity program of the Autonomic University of Barcelona (UAB). I’m a biologist specialized in marine biology, specifically in quantitative and experimental marine ecology.
I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Extremadura (UEx) from 2018 to 2022, and where I discovered my interest in ecology. Afterwards, I completed an international master’s degree in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) from 2022 to 2024. For my master’s thesis I worked in quantitative marine ecology and aimed to model the movement and physiological processes of the dives of humpback whales.
Nowadays, I am working on my PhD, in which we aim to identify key biological areas for marine megafauna in the western Mediterranean, with the goal of supporting the conservation of these communities.
Current Research:
My current research is included in the COTI and OCEANIC projects. We have tagged individuals from different megafauna species (seabirds, sharks, large fishes and turtles) with pop-up archival tags. I am now working on the movement data of tagged ocean sunfishes (Mola mola), aiming to decipher their movement patterns and drivers of their distribution. However, the general aim of the research is to integrate the spatial data, biotic/abiotic relevant factors and interspecific relationships of the target species into mechanistic and statistical models, intending to optimize the effectiveness of protected areas for the conservation of megafauna communities in the Western Mediterranean.
