Who we are?

iMARES (Integrated Marine Ecosystem Assessment) is a consolidated  research group (SGR2021-AGAUR) that develops research projects and initiatives that investigate, assess, monitor and advance the knowledge needed to progress in the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and ecosystems, with an integrated view of ecological, social and economic benefits and trade-offs. 

Mission

We conduct evidence-based research of excellence and high-quality education activities concerning marine species, communities and ecosystems, their temporal and spatial past, present and future dynamics, and how climate and human activities affect those dyanamics. We develop basic and applied knowledge to inform environmental and conservation policies to find best solutions for mitigation, adaptation and transformative management of the oceans.

Vision

We aim at significantly contribuiting to the generation of necesary knowledge to progress meaningfully to achieve a balance between conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and ecosystems. We use and integrate complementary disciplines spanning from oceanography, to ecology, social sciences and economy
