PhD candidate
I pursued my studies in Biology at the University of Seville (2013-2017). I subsequently completed a MSc Erasmus Mundus in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea, 2017-2019). Following my interest in the science-policy interface, I did a five-months Schuman traineeship at the European Parliament and a one-year traineeship at the Biodiversity Foundation from the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. I am currently pursuing a PhD on Marine Sciences at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) and the University of Barcelona. During my PhD, I am acquiring knowledge and experience on climate change marine risk assessments, fisheries management, marine conservation and marine ecosystem food-web models. I have also gained teaching experience at the University of Barcelona and participated in a three-month summer school at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
Current Research:
My current research focus on marine conservation, fisheries management and climate change, mostly targeting the Mediterranean Sea, with a focus on: i) fishing activities within marine protected areas and their level of protection based on fishing regulations; ii) reported effects of marine protected areas, fisheries restricted areas and effort reduction measures on the marine ecosystem; iii) using marine ecosystem models to assess the effect of specific management measures on the marine ecosystem under climate change scenarios.
Project: Evaluation of nature-based solutions focused on the sustainable management of fisheries for mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean Sea.
