PhD Candidate
Lucía completed her bachelor’s studies in Biology at the University of Barcelona. During this period, she joined the Erasmus+ Exchange programme at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, where she took courses in Marine Evolution and Sustainable Use of Ecosystems. She became very interested in the conservation and sustainability of the ocean, pursuing a Master’s in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management at the University of Barcelona. While in the master’s, she received a JAE-Intro ICU grant for introduction to research, joining the iMARES research group in the framework of the EU H2020 project FutureMARES.
Now, Lucía is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB). Her main aim is to provide new knowledge about the social and ecological effects of climate change, with a particular interest in spatial analysis and identifying areas of particular concern.
Current Research:
Lucía works on the FutureMARES, GES4SEAS, and MarinePlan EU H2020 projects, assessing the effects of climate change in the Western Mediterranean Sea from a holistic perspective. To do that, she analyzes long-term trends in commercial fisheries catch and revenue, evaluates climatic and human risks faced by commercially and ecologically important species, and uses digital data to study human dimensions. She is also involved in the ecosystem modeling approach (EwE) and the scenarios downscaling. Her ultimate aim is to provide new knowledge to managers and help the adaptation and mitigation of human communities to climate change.
