PhD Candidate
I’m Jorge Mestre Tomás, a technician at the iMARES group. I hold a degree in Marine Science from the University of Alicante, as well as an MSc in Bioinformatics and another in Biostatistics from the University of Valencia. My background includes working with long-read transcriptomics data, and I am currently focusing on applied statistics in marine ecology. My work involves Bayesian statistics, species distribution modeling, and the analysis of compositional data.
Current Research:
I am currently working on the ProOceans project, which aims to improve marine ecosystem models (MEMs) to project cumulative effects of global change and future ocean conditions. As part of this project, I am developing GLOSSA, an interactive tool that allows users to fit species distribution models without coding knowledge. GLOSSA is designed so that its output can inform MEMs and contribute to a broader view of marine ecosystems. In addition, I am interested on statistical methods for analyzing spatiotemporal composition data, applying them to global fishing catch data.
