Senior Researcher
I was born in Barcelona in 1980 and pursued my studies in Biology at the University of Barcelona (UB) from 1998 to 2003. I subsequently completed my PhD at UB (2005–2010), focusing on the impact of human-induced environmental changes on the feeding ecology of key species, as well as their exposure to pollutants and pathogens. My dissertation was recognized by the Spanish Society of Ethology as one of the most significant contributions to ethological research (Etología, No. 23, 2011).
Following my doctoral studies, I served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD-CSIC) and the University of Barcelona, collaborating with various national and international research teams from Canada, the UK, France, Australia, and New Zealand, among others. In 2020, I joined the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC), where I focus on researching wildlife responses to global environmental stressors as part of the iMARES research group. My diverse experience and collaborative approach in the field underscore my commitment to advancing our understanding of ecological dynamics.
Current Research:
My research focuses on global change ecology and marine biodiversity conservation, with an emphasis on: (i) analyzing long-term trends in environmental and biological variables in the oceans; (ii) identifying marine areas most at risk from climate and human-induced changes; (iii) assessing wildlife responses in heavily impacted marine systems; and (iv) developing management strategies to enhance ecosystem resilience and ensure their sustainable use. My work has provided spatial assessments of climate and human impacts, as well as innovative approaches to identifying key areas for marine conservation.
