Postdoctoral Researcher
I am a marine ecologist with a strong interest in how ecological, climatic, and human pressures shape marine ecosystems. My work combines statistical and ecological modelling and spatial analysis, integrating environmental, biological and fisheries data to understand food-web dynamics and support ecosystem-based management. I have particular expertise in Ecopath with Ecosim and Ecospace, as well as species distribution modelling and scenario-based simulations, applied to ecosystem dynamics, stock assessment, survey design, and marine protected areas. I completed my PhD at the University of Florida in 2022, where I investigated the spatiotemporal ecosystem dynamics of the West Florida Shelf and the impacts of red tides on reef fish populations and fisheries. I aim to translate this research into tools that support sustainable fisheries, conservation, and climate-adaptive management.
Current Research:
My current research focuses on ecosystem modelling to assess the effectiveness of marine protected areas in the northwestern and western Mediterranean Sea. Using Ecopath with Ecosim and Ecospace, I investigate how no-take MPAs affect marine ecosystem dynamics and fisheries, integrating results across regions and spatial scales to evaluate the potential of MPAs as nature-based solutions for fisheries management and conservation.
